Dr Vu Truong, originally from Go Cong District, Tien Giang Province, holds a Master’s in Public Administration, a PhD in International Relations, and a Senior Political Theory certification.

Dr Vu completed his doctoral thesis in international economics and politics at the University of Bonn, Germany. He has worked as a senior researcher at the School of Public Policy and Environment at Indiana University (USA) and as a visiting scholar at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies.

Before joining the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies, Dr Vu was Director of the Center for International Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City. He also served as Deputy Head of the Department of External Relations and Project Development, and later as Director of the Software Technology Park at Ho Chi Minh City National University.

In late 2022, Dr Vu assumed the role of Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies.

In August 2024, Dr. Vu was promoted to Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies to build the Institute into a center of excellence and a key hub connecting various agencies, providing valuable advisory support to Ho Chi Minh City and localities on development strategies for the future.
