About the SSC Hub

The RMIT Vietnam Asia Pacific Smart and Sustainable Cities Hub (SSC Hub)​ leverages RMIT expertise to drive digital and green advancements in Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region through collaborative research, training and engagement. While there is a focus on Vietnam, we seek to support local and central governments across the Asia-Pacific by connecting RMIT researchers with external stakeholders.

Purpose of the SSC Hub

The SSC Hub works across colleges, schools and centres to establish RMIT University as the leading university for smart and sustainable cities research and impact in the Asia-Pacific.

to develop research, policy and practice capability for national development goals

Strategic alignment

The SSC Hub aligns with the RMIT University Knowledge with Action strategy objective of becoming the leading university for impact in the Asia-Pacific by advancing Smart and Sustainable Cities. The SSC Hub aligns and coordinates its agenda and activities with the plans and initiatives of RMIT Centres, Schools and Colleges, as well as RMIT global engagement efforts in Vietnam and Europe. Additionally. It will integrate with enterprise initiatives affliliated with the university, including the APEC Centre, AVPI and the Asia Society.

SSC Hub activities

Since April 2024, the SSC Hub has been engaged in a series of activities that includs strategy development, PhD projects, mobility grants, annual smart and sustainable cities forums, thematic seminars and networking opportunities.

  • Organising forums, thematic seminars and networking activities to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange 
  • Engaging with Vietnam and Asia Pacific stakeholders 
  • Supporting collaborative Australia-Vietnam research engagement and mobility, and connecting with Europe

SSC Hub has been featured in various Vietnamese media outlets, which highlight our research, collaborations and initiatives. As of end-2024, our work has been featured in over 47 media pieces and reached 8 million views through audience engagement on social platforms. 

Our initiatives have been covered by leading Vietnamese media including Tuoi Tre Newspaper, VNExpress and Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV), reflecting the growing impact of our efforts in shaping sustainable urban development.
