About the Hub

The RMIT Vietnam Smart and Sustainable Cities Hub (Cities Hub) leverages RMIT’s expertise to impact Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific through collaborative research, training, and engagement. We seek to support Asia-Pacific's local and central governments, particularly in Vietnam, in achieving digital and green advancements by connecting with researchers within RMIT and external stakeholders.

Purpose of the Hub

Supporting RMIT university as the leading university for smart and sustainable cities research and impact in the Asia-Pacific.  Working across RMIT colleges, schools and centers to:

Enable, develop and train research capability

Enable, develop and train research capability for excellence and impact at RMIT Vietnam

Support Vietnam society

Support Vietnam society to develop research, policy and practice capability for national development goals

Enable RMIT researchers

Enable RMIT researchers to engage across Vietnam and Australia

Provide a visible point of engagement

Provide a visible point of engagement for Vietnam and international partners to work with RMIT

Pursue new research, training and engagement opportunities

Pursue new research, training and engagement opportunities in the Asia-Pacific including via RMIT Europe

RMIT strategic alignment

The Cities Hub supports the RMIT University Knowledge with Action strategy by advancing the Smart and Sustainable Cities priority and the objective of being the leading university for impact in the Asia-Pacific. The Cities Hub will align and coordinate its agendas and activities with the plans and initiatives of RMIT Centres, Schools and Colleges, as well as RMIT global engagement efforts in Vietnam and Europe. Additionally. It will integrate with RMIT enterprise initiatives, including the APEC Centre, AVPI and the Asia Society.

Hub activities

From April 2024, the Hub will commence a program of activities that includes strategy development, PhD projects, mobility grants, thematic seminars and networking opportunities. 

  • Building RMIT Vietnam capability through research, training  
  • Organising forums, thematic seminars and networking activities to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange 
  • Engaging with Vietnam and Asia Pacific stakeholders 
  • Supporting collaborative Australia-Vietnam research engagement and mobility, and connecting with Europe
