Dr. Trung Nguyen, an Associate Professor at RMIT’s Business School, holds a PhD in Management from Monash University (Australia). He also holds a Master’s in Economics of Development and a Bachelor’s in Foreign Trade. Trung has further enhanced his expertise with executive education at Wharton Business School (USA).
Trung teaches economics, business analysis, leadership in the age of digital disruption, and the political economy of global business. As Head of the Management Department, a large academic department, he leads six business programs, including an MBA.
In research, Trung focuses on international business, economics, public management, and digital/smart transformations. He co-leads RMIT’s APAC Smart and Sustainable Cities hub. He has received several research grants and funding and has published impactfully.
His active engagement extends to committees with governments, ASEAN forums, and Asia conferences. He advises/speaks/chairs major events such as the HCMC Economic Forum (in collaboration with the World Economic Forum) and conferences hosted by ASEAN, the Australian APEC Study Centre, and the World Bank. He is also the founder of high-profile forums such as the APAC Smart and Sustainable Cities, the Global Business Forum at RMIT, and CEO Talks.
Trung is a regular trainer for large programs such as VN Airlines, Electronic VN, , Ministry of Planning and Investment, HCM National Academy of Politics, DFAT and USAID. He leads applied research/consultancy for prominent organizations such as KPMG and VinaCapital. He advises provincial governments on digital strategies, including those for Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province.
His recognitions include the Vietnam Minister of Education and Training Merit Certificate, the RMIT PVC Award, the College Research Excellence Award, the RMIT Vietnam Media Star, and the Outstanding Member of The Business School, RMIT.
Trung’s blend of academic and industry experience positions him as a leading authority, with significant contributions to education, business and government, impacting both domestically and internationally.
