Academic Success Advising

Academic Success Advisors (ASA) are experts in getting at risk students back on track.

As a unit of Student Academic Success (SAS), the ASA mission is to help at risk students reach their full academic potential via a process of reflection, goal setting and progress checks on key academic tasks.

Who do we support?

You must be at risk to use this service.

What is At Risk (AR)?

RMIT students become at risk when they have:

  • Failed 50% or more of an enrolled course load in a compulsory semester or teaching period; and/or
  • Failed a course a second time.

What are the at risk stages?

First Stage At Risk

If you are at risk first stage this semester, the ASA service recommends you complete the following tasks:

  • Complete the Understanding RMIT Academic Progress Policy module in Canvas (Your ASA will email you with instructions); and
  • Book an appointment with your ASA to complete an Academic Performance Improvement Plan (APIP).

You should have received an email from your ASA outlining these steps. If you cannot locate that email and have questions about what you should do next, please email Student Academic Success via the address sas@rmit.edu.vn. By meeting an ASA and developing an APIP, you demonstrate to the university your commitment to improving your academic performance.

Final Stage At Risk

If you are at risk Final Stage, you must complete a Show Cause submission. This written statement provides you with an opportunity to explain your academic difficulties to the Board of your program. Based on the content of your Show Cause and your academic performance, the Board will decide whether you can continue in your program. In that case, you should contact your ASA to complete a new APIP.
