Presenting key findings of Smart and Sustainable Cities in the Asia - Pacific Region

Professor Trung Nguyen shared key insights on the evolution of smart cities in the Asia-Pacific region at Vietnam – Asia Smart Cities Summit 2024​.

On December 2, at the Vietnam-Asia Smart Cities Summit 2024, hosted by Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA) and Hanoi's Department of Information and Communications, Professor Trung Nguyen, co- lead of RMIT Vietnam APAC Smart and Sustainable Cities Hub shared key insights on the evolution of smart cities in the Asia-Pacific region.​

Speaking to an audience of over 700 delegates from 28 provinces and 18 countries, Trung explained that smart cities worldwide are now entering a third phase of development, where societal participation and governance frameworks are as vital as technological solutions.​

Highlighting successful examples like Singapore, Seoul, and Sydney, he showcased how advanced technologies have driven efficiencies in transportation, energy, public services, and economic growth. However, he stressed that regional cooperation and inclusivity are essential for long-term success.

“Vietnam’s path to smart city development requires balancing technological innovation with human-centered planning,” Trung noted. “By fostering collaboration and addressing the digital divide, we can create cities that are intelligent, sustainable, and equitable for all.”​

With these insights, RMIT continues to lead conversations on building smarter, more inclusive cities across the Asia-Pacific region.
