In June 2024, two significant meetings took place between Cities Hub’s leaders and partners, highlighting collaborative efforts towards smart city development in Ho Chi Minh City.
On June 14, leaders from the Smart and Sustainable Cities Hub, Professor Jago Dodson and Associate Professor Trung Nguyen, met with Mr. Lam Quang Nam, Vice President of the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA). They discussed collaborating on a White Paper for Smart Cities Development in ASEAN, aiming to leverage Vietnamese social knowledge and Australian expertise. Key topics included attracting talent to cities, sustainable energy solutions, addressing the STEM workforce shortage, and the private sector's role in policy support.
Additionally, leaders from the Cities Hub and the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center (DXCenter) held a pivotal meeting to explore collaborative opportunities as outlined in the MOU between RMIT Vietnam and DXCenter. The focus was on developing a research cluster aimed at making HCMC a smart and sustainable city. This meeting laid the groundwork for initiatives that will utilise RMIT's policy research expertise and foster collaboration to address critical urban challenges in Ho Chi Minh City.
