Dr. Thanh Tran received his first PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from Jeju National University, South Korea (2012) then his second PhD degree in Aerospace Engineering, Old Dominion University, United States (2016). Prior to joining RMIT Vietnam, Thanh was a lecturer cum academic coordinator at Vietnamese-German University and department chair of Mechanical Engineering program at Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, Vietnam.
Thanh’s teaching and research focuses on solid mechanics, FEM, dynamics and control, industry 4.0, automation technology. He is the author and co-author of more than 35 peer reviewed articles and book chapters. Thanh has been working on many research projects on IoT technology, intelligent control, automation system, industrial robot, and computational intelligence.

- Best Paper Finalist in the 2012 AIAA GNC Conference Graduate Student Paper Competition. AIAA Guidance, Navigation, and Control and Co-Located Conferences 13 - 16 August 2012, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 2012. (Six people are selected for receiving the award finalists)
- Vietnam Education Foundation fellowship (administered by U.S National Academies), 2010-2015. (40 Vietnamese fellows for the whole country per year)
