Canvases full of dreams: how RMIT Vietnam students graduate in style

RMIT Vietnam’s graduation ceremonies are filled with not only excitement and aspirations but also creativity and self-expression. From playful designs to heartfelt tributes, the decorated mortarboards of the graduands capture the essence of their journeys.

There was a time when this day, Graduation Day, felt like a distant dream, almost out of reach. But now, here we stand, draped in our gowns, ready to celebrate RMIT’s Class of 2025.

As we walk across the stage, we don’t just carry caps; we hold the silent tributes to the memories, dreams, and gratitude that have shaped us. Each mortarboard tells a unique story of struggles overcome, dreams pursued, and the journey that brought us here.

The air hums with excitement, a mix of pride and nostalgia, as we take in the sea of black gowns and vibrant hoods that represent our schools and majors. Yet, it’s the decorated mortarboards that truly stand out, reflecting our individuality and aspirations. These caps are not just symbols of academic achievement—they are expressions of who we are. Some bear words that fuelled us through challenges, reflect our personalities, or celebrate our best memories at RMIT, or all of the above.

A tribute to the journey at RMIT

Imagine the day you are finally a proud RMIT Vietnam graduand. As you stand on that stage, surrounded by peers and lecturers who have shaped your growth, you take a moment to embrace the profound sense of achievement in the air. Every late night spent studying, every assignment conquered, and every milestone, big or small, has led to this moment.

RMIT has been more than a place of learning—it has been a community where friendships were formed through group projects, club activities, and shared challenges. When you first arrived, you may have felt alone, but along the way, you found a connection and a sense of belonging. Through competitions, classes, gatherings, and having fun and student communities, you built relationships that made every step of this journey meaningful.

That’s why some graduates choose to reflect these cherished moments on their caps—a tribute to the friendships and experiences that made RMIT unforgettable. From late-night study sessions to club activities and spontaneous laughter, these images serve as lasting reminders of the bonds formed and the journey shared. Graduates carry a piece of their RMIT experience with them, honouring the connections they’ve built and the chapter they are now closing together.

A statement of self-expression

A decorated mortarboard is a rare opportunity for students to express who they are at the culmination of their academic journey at RMIT. Through humour, identity, or personal passions, these designs offer a glimpse into the person behind the degree.

For some, humour adds a light-hearted touch—whether it’s a witty quote, a meme about "thousands of years later," or a playful joke about how long the student life can feel with tons of assignments and projects. These caps remind us that laughter and resilience carried us through the challenges.

Others see their mortarboards as a canvas for self-expression, using them to showcase their identity, values, and passions. Some incorporate their favourite characters, a playful nod to their major, or unique aesthetics—turning their cap into a reflection of their individuality and what truly defines them.

A special thanks to loved ones

Through every challenge and achievement in your student life, one constant is behind your back—our families. They stood behind us, offering unwavering support, making sacrifices, and encouraging us every step of the way. Whether it was a reassuring call all the way back in the hometown, or a soothful home-cooked meal after a long day on campus or simply believing in us when we needed it most—their presence made a difference.

Now, as we graduate, they share in our pride, knowing the effort and dedication it took to reach this moment. Wearing a cap that says “Thanks to my parents” is a heartfelt way to express gratitude and respect, honouring the role they played in helping us achieve this milestone.

To a future without limits

As the caps soar into the air, they carry with them dreams, experiences, and the spirit of determination for the next chapter in life. Each one tells a story of where the graduate has been and where they hope to go. . We’re not just closing a chapter; we’re carrying a legacy and paving the way for future generations.

As RMIT celebrates 25 years in Vietnam, we take pride in our legacy of shaping the educational landscape, with over 12,000 students and 22,500 alumni. Our alumni have paved the way for future generations, leaving a lasting impact on the growth of education in Vietnam—an impact that current students now carry forward. This milestone not only celebrates our achievements but also reinforces our ongoing commitment to inspiring future leaders and creating lasting opportunities for success.

Finally, dear the Futuristas—Class of 2025—congratulations! We wish you all the best as you embark on your new journey, with creativity and optimism as boundless as the skies above, just like the mortarboards that crown this unforgettable day.
