RMIT Bee Battlefield English spelling contest 2023

Overview

RMIT School of English & University Pathways is organizing the RMIT Bee Battlefield Spelling Contest to create an environment for candidates to familiarize themselves with the pressure of English exams in an international standard environment as well as practice confidence, speed thinking and quick response skills;

  • Help candidates consolidate their vocabulary, improve pronunciation as well as use English confidently;
  • Elevate the candidates' passion and interest in learning English;
  • Provide contestants an opportunity to interact and learn from each other through participating in rewarding activities.

Eligibility

  • Contestants from Ho Chi Minh city, Hanoi and Danang.
  • Contestants is between 12 and 17 years old.

Timeline

  • Registration via this link; or at RMIT’s partnered schools
  • Preliminary round:
    • Ho Chi Minh City & Ha Noi: during April and May
    • Da Nang: during May
  • Semi-final round: 
    • Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi & Da Nang: 11 June 2023
  • Final round: 25 June 2023 in Ho Chi Minh City

Format: An English test with multiple-choice questions within 45 minutes, taken place in:

  • Ho Chi Minh City & Ha Noi:
    • Participants from partnered schools will take the test at their schools in April and May.
    • Participants individually registering will be gathered and take the test at RMIT University on 21 May 2023.
  • Da Nang:
    • Participants from partnered schools will take the test at their schools in May.
    • Participants individually registering will be gathered and take the test at RMIT University in May 2023.

Deadline for registration: 9:00 A.M 15 May 2023

Result: Participants with an English level of Upper Intermediate or higher will be selected for the Semi-final Round.

  • Format: The general spelling test in which participants will be eliminated right after the first incorrect answer, taken place on 11 June 2023 in 3 cities Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi and Da Nang
  • Result: 15 students nationally with no incorrect answer will enter the Final Round.

  • Format: Contestants will divide into 05 groups of 03 to compete for the First, Second, and Third prizes. Each group will compete through 02 matches: speed spelling test and crossword puzzle.
  • The Finale will take place on 25 June 2023 in Ho Chi Minh.
  • Each match will be recorded and broadcast on RMIT English's official Youtube channel and Facebook. Contestants agree that RMIT can use their videos and photos for marketing and educational purposes.
  • Final result: Contestants with the highest score will win the First prizes, and relatively Second prizes, and Third prizes.

Prize structure

  • 05 First-prizes: An educational sponsorship worth 14,000,000 VND for an English course (12-17 years old) at RMIT and 01 Google Nest Mini bluetooth smart speaker.
  • 05 Second-prizes: 01 month practice for IELTS Test with McMillan account and 01 Google Nest Mini bluetooth smart speaker.
  • 05 Third-prizes: 01 month practice for IELTS Test with McMillan account and 01 Energizer bluetooth earphone combined power bank.
