The English for University program provides seven levels of English training, starting at the beginner level and progressing to advanced proficiency in the language. The program aims to prepare you for higher education studies and develop the skills needed for life and work. You will:
Students in this program learn how to learn and gain the necessary skills needed to thrive - first in an international university setting and secondly, in the modern workplace.
Your assessments will demonstrate your capability in reading, writing, listening and speaking. They will also include technology and help you to develop independent learning skills. The tasks will include response journals, presentations, research, weekly review quizzes and group projects such as developing a website or creating a video. You will also have an end-of-course test for each skill. You must be successful in all 4 skills to progress to the next level.
English courses and programs provided by RMIT University Vietnam are endorsed by NEAS (the Australian National English Language Teaching Accreditation Scheme). That means you are learning in an organisation that has internationally recognised English learning and teaching standards.
The English for University program incorporates technology and explores topics that are relevant to your RMIT degree program. You will work independently and in groups using applications and tools, interactive workbooks, and online research and resources to complete projects such as developing a website or creating a video. Your progress will also be supported by RMIT’s state-of-the-art learning systems by providing you with access to the specialised Independent Learning Centre and RMIT library.
The School of English & University Pathways has a unique interactive class format, with the same learning and teaching approach and additional unique aspects specifically for online and blended classes. This gives flexibility to your learning with a mix of self-led and teacher-led activities.
One-to-one tutoring with an experienced teacher is available for you outside your class time if you need to discuss your progress or to ask any questions you may have about your lessons, assignments or skills.
Students can use computers in the ILC to access English software programs and RMIT’s online learning system (Canvas) for extra practice. Students can also meet with the ILC Advisor to get advice on independent learning, research skills and the creation of a study plan.
Students can join the weekly Student Support workshops that are offered outside of class such as: English language skills, learning strategies and technologies, and career planning.
Students can also join Student Clubs as a way to meet other university students, get involved in university events and gain experience in areas of interest and study. There are Sports Clubs such as basketball or badminton, Academic Clubs such as English or accounting and special interest Clubs such as dance or photography.
Parents can contact the Administration Team in the School of English & University Pathways to ask about their child’s attendance, test results, participation in class and progress with their skills. Parents can also book meetings with teachers and Academic English Managers to discuss their child’s progress.
Please note that RMIT Vietnam follows RMIT global privacy laws which means that students must give permission for their information to be shared with their parents.
