RMIT supports Vietnam’s digital transformation expert network

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Vietnam Ministry of Planning and Investment have been partnering with RMIT University Vietnam to deliver short courses aimed at training digital transformation experts for Vietnamese businesses.

The first ‘Empowering Vietnam's Digital Transformation Expert Network’ short course was held at RMIT’s Hanoi campus from 24 to 27 September, with the next one taking place in Ho Chi Minh City from 16 to 19 October.

The training program is funded by the USAID Improving Private Sector Competitiveness project (USAID IPSC), with the Agency for Enterprise Development under Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment as the project owner.

The course is designed for small and growing businesses engaged in digital transformation. It aims to enhance their organisational capabilities, assess their readiness for technological adoption, and develop a strategic roadmap for integrating technological solutions into their business operations.

Fifty participants representing around 30 businesses attended the recent four-day course in Hanoi. The majority of the businesses currently operate in the manufacturing and industry sectors.

A group of international academics from The Business School at RMIT Vietnam facilitated the training program, which covered eight interactive learning modules, a company visit, and group presentations.

Professor Robert McClelland, Dean of The Business School at RMIT Vietnam said: “We were delighted to see the innovative ideas and solutions that emerged from the group presentations. Each presentation highlighted not just academic rigour but also a deep understanding of the real-world implications of their work.

“We hope the participants will apply the knowledge and connections they have gained in their professional journeys. The world is rapidly changing, and their roles as leaders and innovators in Vietnam’s digital landscape are more critical than ever.”

As per the ‘Supporting Enterprises’ Digital Transformation from 2021 to 2025’ program implemented by the Ministry of Planning and Investment in cooperation with USAID, a network of at least 100 digital transformation experts and agencies shall be established to assist in providing digital consultancy and services for enterprises in Vietnam.

Addressing the course participants, Mr Nguyen Duc Trung, Deputy Director of the Agency for Enterprise Development, emphasised the importance of training for the network of digital transformation experts in Vietnam.

He said that digital transformation experts require a wide range of skills related to business analytics, strategic planning, as well as financial and marketing management. In addition, they should have the ability to design customised digital transformation roadmaps for small and medium-sized enterprises in line with specific industry, sector, value chain and managerial considerations.

Dr Santiago Velasquez delivered a class The course provided insightful knowledge and practical examples to help businesses on their digital transformation journey.

To support the growth of the digital transformation expert network, 10 top participants will be selected from the course cohorts in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, who will next complete an intensive 40-hour training course. These experts will then provide consultancy to 20 small and medium-sized enterprises who are receiving support from the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
