RMIT Vietnam broadens access to Opportunity Scholarships

RMIT Vietnam is expanding its partnerships to support students who would not otherwise be able to access higher education.

The Opportunity Scholarships support students with disabilities or financial disadvantages who demonstrate positive personal qualities and a desire to pursue higher education.

Since 2020, the University has expanded its scholarships program and established partnerships with non-profit organisations (NPOs) to offer scholarships annually, worth on average 1.7 billion VND each, who collaborate on the scholarship selection process and relevant activities.

Blue Dragon Children's Foundation and Maison Chance Social Centre join long term partners KOTO and Sao Mai Centre for the Blind.

Blue Dragon's mission is to end human trafficking. They rescue children from homelessness, and people who have been trafficked into slavery. Blue Dragon provides the people they support with everything they need to heal, rebuild their lives, and thrive. Over the last 20 years, Blue Dragon has transformed the lives of thousands of people across Vietnam.

Maison Chance supports disabled individuals, orphans, and children from difficult backgrounds by providing free housing, medical care, education, and vocational training. Operating across four locations, it fosters a family-like atmosphere where beneficiaries can live, learn, and work together, helping them reintegrate into society.

Both organisations share RMIT Vietnam’s commitment to providing educational opportunities to underserved and vulnerable communities, ensuring that talented individuals have access to higher education regardless of their socio-economic background.

RMIT Vietnam Dean of Students, Associate Professor Seng Kiat Kok, said collaborating with these NPOs helps the University broaden its influence and effectiveness.

“Their well-established networks and profound knowledge of the communities they serve enable us to find and assist more students who can benefit from our scholarships,” he said.

“Both of them are reputable and known for their impactful work. Partnering with them enhances our credibility and reinforces our commitment to social responsibility, and significantly broadens our ethos of inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility.”

During its 24 years of operation, RMIT Vietnam has awarded scholarships worth more than 513 billion VND, to 1,700 plus outstanding students.

To date, the University has granted 34 fully funded Opportunity Scholarships, with a total value of more than 56.6 billion VND.

RMIT Vietnam is dedicated to providing a world-class, inclusive higher education experience that embodies the principles of a civic university within the community it serves. In alignment with this mission, our Opportunity Scholarship seeks to offer transformative opportunities to Vietnamese students who might otherwise be unable to access higher education due to financial constraints and/or disabilities.

In addition to receiving full English and Higher Education tuition fees, monthly living expenses, a laptop and home travel allowance (if applicable), the successful recipients will benefit from the expertise and global experience of RMIT’s academic staff, high-quality facilities and infrastructure, as well as an industry-informed curriculum and connections.
