RMIT Vietnam community helps charities over holiday season

To celebrate Christmas and the upcoming Tet holiday, RMIT Vietnam students and staff have organised a series of charity events as a way of giving back to the community.

The events involved different student groups and staff from across departments, but what they all had in common was a willingness of staff and students to work together to help those in need.

Green Leaf, the staff-initiated charity group at Hanoi City campus, handed out gifts to 40 children at the Xa Lu kindergarten in Chieng Khua ward, Moc Chau, 220 kilometres away from Hanoi. The 4th Annual Saigon South Charity Drive continues to collect donations to help Lam Quang Pagoda for senior ladies, the Long Hoa Orphanage for Boys, and the Home of Hope – a shelter for victims of human trafficking. Last year the charity drive collected clothes, toys, DVDs and more than 93 million VND for three beneficiaries. Over the two weeks leading to Christmas, RMIT Vietnam students at Saigon South campus sold colourful handmade gifts and cards to raise money for children at SOS Village Ben Tre. The students then visited the SOS Village, organising fun games and offering gifts to raise the spirits of the children. Led by the Environment Club, Hanoi students organised a Blood Donation Day. The event attracted many staff and students who donated blood to patients in need. As part of the Tet Giving campaign, the Enactus Club sold New Year cards, red envelopes, and snacks to raise money for disadvantaged children at the Green Bamboo Warm Shelter in Ho Chi Minh City.
