With a lifelong dream to build a business that helps people, Vo Quoc Vu took multiple leaps with RMIT, including graduating with a Bachelor’s of IT in 2019, and an MBA two years after that.

After earning his bachelor’s, Vu chose to take an MBA because he wanted to learn more “in terms of business ideas and management," noting that it equipped him with the skills to combine IT and business.

The MBA experience also helped him overcome his introverted nature, teaching him the value of understanding people and teamwork: "Great teamwork means great results," he states.

The decision to pursue further studies in tech was motivated by an eagerness to learn more in the trending field of AI.

Choosing RMIT’s Master of Artificial Intelligence program has been a pivotal moment in Vu's journey. "As someone who wants to be a business owner, I look for ways on how to maximise AI in different fields," he says, “and I have a particular interest in its application in healthcare. Working alongside PhD candidates and under the guidance of mentors like Dr. Minh Dinh, I have learned how to process medical data and build AI models, emphasising the importance of ethics and accuracy.”

Vu’s research project focused on implementing AI to diagnose heart diseases, aiming to build a platform for people in rural areas with limited access to modern medical facilities. This project was a hybrid of research and practical application, igniting a passion for research and setting him on a path towards his own PhD.

Networking within the master’s program was another highlight for Vu. "I loved every single part of my time in class," Vu recalls, describing his classmates as a family. The connections he made were “both meaningful and supportive, enhancing my learning experience and future prospects.”

Looking ahead, Vu plans to work overseas, with a long-term goal of returning to Vietnam to establish an AI-related business. "The Master of Artificial Intelligence program has already done its job, giving me the technical skills and the mindset needed for a PhD," he states.

Vu’s journey is a remarkable example of how education can unlock new passions and pave the way for innovation and positive social impact.
