Vietnam Festival of Creativity & Design 2024 launched in Hanoi

The 6th annual Vietnam Festival of Creativity & Design (VFCD) themed “RE:GENERATION” is taking place in Hanoi from 16 to 22 November with diverse activities, including showcases, talks, workshops, and exploring tours – all poised to engage creativity lovers.

The opening ceremony was held on 16 November at the Vietnamese Women's Museum (36 Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi). This venue will also host all activities of VFCD in Hanoi this year.

VFCD 2024 is organised by RMIT University Vietnam in cooperation with the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts Studies (VICAS), event partners Vietnam Young Interior Design Community (YIDC) and Viral Town, and various individuals, groups, organisations, and businesses from the creative sector. Like previous years, the festival is supported by creative partner Behalf by Pencil and communication partner Hanoi Grapevine. This series of events aims to create an open, effective and timely platform for creative individuals and organisations to interact and exchange ideas with both online and offline audiences.

Representing RMIT Vietnam at the opening ceremony, Associate Professor Donna Cleveland, Interim Dean of the School of Communication & Design, said: “This year, our theme is RE:GENERATION as we believe it is time to advance beyond sustainable design towards an approach that merges design thinking, nature-based solutions, and scientific insights. Our goal is to create and discover solutions that harmonise the needs of both our local and global communities while caring for our environment.”

Diverse activities for creativity enthusiasts

Creative and sustainable RE:GENERATION is a process of renewing, restoring or revitalising a (tangible or intangible) cultural heritage, community or environment. The significance of regeneration lies in its potential to transform, creating green products and unlocking vibrant sustainable communities or green spaces that are resilient to change.

Throughout the festival, audiences are welcome to visit two showcases that reflect the practical messages of the festival theme – the RE:GENERATION showcase and the “here/there - Crafting Connections: Contemporary Perspectives on Design, Culture and Space” showcase. These showcases introduce works with varied approaches and will also be displayed during the upcoming festival program in Ho Chi Minh City.

The "RE:GENERATION" showcase presents works by researchers, artists, and artist groups. The "RE:GENERATION" showcase presents works by researchers, artists, and artist groups.

VFCD 2024 in Hanoi highlights “RE:GENERATION” as an integral part of the streets, public spaces, materials, and ecosystems found in the city. Participants will have the opportunity to explore Hanoi from an open, multi-dimensional perspective and engage with artists, architects, researchers, and Hanoi enthusiasts. This spirit is consistently expressed through various activities in the three key areas: Community and Spaces; Culture and Heritage; Environment. Most activities will be open for free to attendees.

Notable activities include:

Enduring support for innovation

Initiated by RMIT University Vietnam in 2019, VFCD has significantly contributed to fostering partnerships and expanding projects between organisations and individuals in Vietnam’s cultural and creative sectors over the past six years.

With a series of creative activities welcoming everyone, VFCD serves as a catalyst to help realise the goals of the Strategy for the Development of Cultural Industries in Vietnam.

The festival also plays a key role in laying the foundation for a “creative belt” across the country, promoting the expansion of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in Vietnam.

The journey of VFCD will continue in Ho Chi Minh City from 29 November to 5 December. For more information about VFCD 2024, please visit:
