RMIT Alumni Green Business Showcase 2024 returns with a focus on reuse

Fifteen innovative companies are showcasing sustainable solutions at RMIT’s Hanoi campus, where even the exhibition booths themselves demonstrate a commitment to waste reduction and environmental protection.

The Alumni Green Business Showcase is an annual event hosted by RMIT Vietnam’s Alumni Relations department since 2023, dedicated to highlighting sustainable and ESG (environmental, social and governance) initiatives.

This year’s event is open to the public from 9 to 17 November and offers visitors the opportunity to engage with business leaders and individuals who care about green development.

The showcase highlights products and services from 15 companies, catering to both B2B and B2C markets, spanning various industries such as agriculture, food, green energy, new materials, and recycling technology.

Algae in flasks and rice seedlings Binh Minh Capital showcased algae used to maintain healthy shrimp farming environments and rice varieties that can tolerate saline conditions.
recycled plastic pellets VietCycle’s premium recycled plastic pellets are an alternative to virgin plastic pellets, meeting the standards to produce packaging for food and personal care products.

What sets this year’s showcase apart is the concept of green and reusable booths.

While recycling was the focus of the first showcase last year, which pioneered exhibition booths made entirely of cardboard and recyclable materials, this year’s emphasis has shifted towards reuse.

The goal is to minimise the waste generated by designing booths that can be reused in future events.

The booths are thus designed in a modular format, allowing them to be easily assembled, disassembled, and reassembled in different configurations – all without using any permanent adhesives.

Nguyen Huyen Chau speaking Ms Nguyen Huyen Chau, CEO of VAN HOA and an RMIT alumnus, presented the modular design concept of the booths.

The natural materials used are lightweight without compromising durability. This makes the booths easy to transport and handle, further promoting their reusability.

Ms Nguyen Thuy Linh, Deputy Manager of Alumni Relations at RMIT Vietnam said, “By embracing innovative design and green principles, we aim to inspire businesses and event organisers in Vietnam to prioritise sustainability.”

Whether it is a single company reusing their own booth for multiple exhibitions or RMIT reconfiguring the booths for future events, the flexible, lightweight booths reduce transportation costs and environmental impact.

“We emphasise resource renewal and minimal environmental footprint at every stage of the product life cycle. We are rethinking the impacts of our events and committing to lasting change,” Ms Linh said.

The showcase is a key highlight event in the year-long Sach Sanh Sanh campaign organised by RMIT Vietnam’s Alumni Relations team.

In addition to the showcase, RMIT is collecting used clothes and books from 12 to 14 November at its Hanoi campus. Participants can then exchange their donated items for others at the Green Market event on 15 and 16 November. The initiative promotes the reuse of goods, supporting a more sustainable lifestyle among today’s consumers.

The Alumni Green Business Showcase 2024 is open daily from 9:30am to 5pm until 17 November at the Hanoi Industry and Innovation Hub, RMIT University, 521 Kim Ma Street, Hanoi. Register now to attend (free admission).
