104 new scholarships advance education impacts and research commitment for RMIT Vietnam

The scholarships, with a total value of more than 48.5 billion VND, are allocated into six groups, including leadership, equity, creativity, academic excellence, international excellence, and postgraduate, allowing potential talents who possess distinct abilities and strengths, or hail from different backgrounds access to world-class education.

There are 73 scholarships for both local and international prospective undergraduate students, 2 scholarships for Foundation Studies students, 8 scholarships for prospective graduate students, and 21 scholarships for current students.

This year, the University received more than 2,200 impressive scholarship applications from Vietnam and internationally.

The successful recipients come from many cities and provinces across Vietnam and countries in Asia, Europe as well as from Australia and the US.

This year’s most prestigious and competitive undergraduate scholarship – Vice-Chancellor’s Scholars – was awarded to seven prospective students across the country.

This scholarship is awarded on merit, and considers past academic performance, passion for success, creativity, engagement with community involvement and future leadership potential. It covers full tuition fees for an undergraduate program and provides leadership development opportunities for the winners.

Le Hoang Quyen, a Hanoi-Amsterdam High School alumnus who was named RMIT Vice-Chancellor’s Scholar at the ceremony in Hanoi campus on 20 October, said “contributing to society is not just a moral obligation, it is a gateway to endless opportunities”.

“When we give back to our communities, we create a ripple effect that not only benefits those in need but also opens doors for our own personal growth and development,” the RMIT Bachelor of Psychology student shared with her fellow scholarship winners at the ceremony as well as the wider community.

“It allows us to expand our horizons and broaden our perspectives by being exposed to diverse cultures, experiences, and ideas, hence enhancing our ability to adapt to an ever-changing world. Through my participation in many community projects, I have developed crucial skills such as leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving, which is what RMIT is searching for in a scholarship holder,” Quyen said.

While 2023 scholarship winners are eager to embark on their journey with RMIT, Quyen hoped all her peers can “inspire others to give back to society, no matter how big or small, and create a positive cycle of change”.

RMIT Vietnam also awarded six life-changing scholarships to disadvantaged young Vietnamese people who otherwise cannot access higher education. Three of them are in partnership with the University’s community partners - KOTO, Vietnam Blind Association and Sao Mai Center for the Blind.

These Opportunity Scholarships strongly reflect RMIT’s commitment to creating impacts on the community by giving opportunities to Vietnamese students with disabilities and/or financial disadvantages who demonstrate positive personal qualities and a strong desire to pursue higher education. To date, RMIT Vietnam has granted 34 fully funded scholarships, with a total value of more than 56.6 billion VND.

Nguyen Thi Hong Nhung, an Opportunity Scholarship recipient who is going to study RMIT Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management program this year, expressed her utmost happiness for the result after days of preparing the application.

As a visually impaired person, Nhung has long dreamt for a tourism model where people with visual impairments like her can have a complete travel experience through senses other than sight.

“For me, the Opportunity Scholarship is the shortest way to help me to realise that dream,” Nhung said.

In addition to the annual undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships, RMIT is offering a record number of 18 PhD scholarships which allow recipients, some of whom are academics from local universities, to undertake research in various areas, ranging from management, business, economics, finance, marketing, supply chain and logistics, to architecture and design, computer science, civic engineering, food science, aerospace engineering and aviation, and more. It reinforces RMIT’s commitment in enhancing research impacts for Vietnam.
