Industry networking with Victorian Commissioner to Southeast Asia Rebecca Hall on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) promotes cooperation and bilateral trade in the field between Vietnam and Global Victoria, Australia.

The ICT sector in Vietnam saw significant growth in 2021, both in terms of revenue and number of businesses with two groups of hardware and electronic products still leading in the list of ten export groups of Vietnam.

During her visit to Vietnam, Commissioner Rebecca Hall is excited to explore opportunities for collaboration and promote bilateral trade.

“Victoria and Vietnam have a strong and comprehensive relationship, with robust people to people linkages and many similarities. Given Vietnam’s emergence as a regional start-up and innovation hub, and Melbourne’s reputation as Australia’s technology capital I am excited to explore opportunities for collaboration in Vietnam,” Commissioner Hall said.

Deputy Director General of Agency for Southern Affairs of Ministry of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Cuong said the Government always considers Science, Technology and Innovation as the most important driving forces to promote business and industry towards modernisation where ICT is considered as the key.

“The biggest challenge for us to pursuit the path is the shortage of human resources with the right skill set and capability,” Mr Cuong said.

Mr Cuong highly recognised RMIT’s role and position in higher education and in supplying high quality human resources to the market, particularly in ICT and other key economic segments.

“To date, RMIT is the only international university, fully licensed and operating in large scale in Vietnam,” Mr Cuong said.

“We expect other universities from Victoria state and RMIT University continue to play key role in producing high quality human resources to the market and develop more researchers for Vietnam.”

RMIT Vietnam Chairman Professor Peter Coloe emphasised that as a trusted, demand-driven partner of the government agencies and industries, “RMIT Vietnam will together support the sector to achieve the goals that the Vietnamese Government set out for ICT, to make it a key sector contributing to the country’s development and turning Vietnam into an advanced ICT country”.

Professor Coloe also announced the introduction of RMIT Vietnam’s two new master programs in cyber security and AI in 2022.

“As a leading training provider in Vietnam, we are committed to taking the lead, bringing in our best knowledge, skill sets, and technology that we are applying in Australia to Vietnam, to contribute to the capacity building in the sector in the country,” Professor Coloe said.
