The Hinrich Foundation, a philanthropic organisation focused on promoting sustainable global trade, will partner with the University in developing practical experiential education in global trade, building on each other’s strengths in the development of a postgraduate educational program in global trade, jointly developing courses to help individuals develop careers in trade, and engaging industry and the employer market to attend jointly organised seminars and thought leadership activities.
Merle Hinrich, Founder and Chairman of the Hinrich Foundation, said that the partnership is a very good fit when it comes to the organisation’s goals and RMIT’s desire to provide an excellent education for undergraduate and graduate students.
“RMIT Vietnam provides coursework which is very much in line with what we are trying to achieve,” Mr Hinrich said. “We hope that we can enhance the relationship between scholars, employers and the schools.”
He added: “We familiarise scholars with employers, and employers familiarise us with what they need […] every employer has different needs, every employer faces massive competition, every employer is looking at the change of technology.
“We try to bring these experiences not only back to the students, but back to the universities.”
RMIT Vietnam President Professor Gael McDonald said the MOU will strengthen the relationship between the two parties.
“The partnership with the foundation is an exciting opportunity for RMIT because we can leverage the reputation and mission of the foundation to develop new programs which really meet the needs of the global community,” Professor McDonald said.
Professor McDonald shared that the two parties are looking at initiative delivering programs here in Vietnam: “We are looking at the programs and how we are able to frame them to best meet the needs of Vietnam, and also the region.”
Prior to the signing ceremony, Mr Hinrich delivered a lecture which was followed by a panel discussion on The Impact of trade-focused FDI across Asia and Vietnam today with industry experts from the Hinrich Foundation, Adidas Sourcing Limited, Dezan Shira & Associates, and RMIT Vietnam.
