Description

This proof-of-concept project will create an AR guided walking tour along the Kenh Te canal banks of Districts 4 and 7. It addresses two interrelated problems. The first is the recognition of the ordinary spaces of Saigon, specifically those that are located around the Kenh Te Canal in Districts 4 and 7. Everyday living spaces are overlooked when recognising heritage within the city. The second is revitalising the tourism industry using Saigon’s tangible, built environments and their intangible occupation. Saigon’s vernacular built environment reflects community needs and remains an important physical memory of Saigonese urban culture . Building on a methodology devised in an earlier project that used AR to create and exhibit life size film sequences (see creative archive on RMIT library website). This project will develop a more ambitious creative archive of of the Kenh Te area as a way to revitalise the tourism sector after the COVID-19 pandemic by implementing digital transformation through innovative uses for Augmented Reality. It demonstrates the value of creativity and enhances the appeal of this district to tourists, alongside archiving the cultural heritage.
