RMIT embarks on “Sach Sanh Sanh” initiative to champion sustainable living

The campaign strives to raise awareness amongst both the RMIT community and the public on sustainability topics by providing relevant information, knowledge, and necessary skills for individuals to act.

According to recent data, one-third of food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted globally, amounting to about 1.3 billion tons per year. This generates 8-10 per cent of annual global greenhouse gas emissions – nearly five times that of the aviation sector.

The UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 (SDG 12) aims to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. On a national level, Vietnam is also striving for Zero Hunger by 2025 and Net Zero by 2050, which includes reducing food waste and carbon emissions.

Inspired by the government’s goals, RMIT Vietnam aspires to contribute to this effort through the “Sạch Sành Sanh” campaign, hosted by the Alumni Relations team.

“Sạch Sành Sanh” (clean, clever, continuity) is an abbreviation of "ăn sạch", "sống sành", “trường sanh" (eat clean, live clever, continuity).

“If we adopt good habits such as reducing food waste, reusing and recycling more, we will live longer lives, and so will our future”, the organiser explained.

This initiative focuses on raising public awareness about food waste and sustainable lifestyles, their impact on greenhouse gas emissions and personal well-being, and how to reduce food waste and embrace a more environment-friendly lifestyle.

Furthermore, the campaign also commits to fostering best practices, knowledge sharing and inspire leaders to adopt sustainability as part of their enterprise focus.
